"Naboth was stoned to death." ( Reading I: 1 Kings 21: 1-16 )

21: 1 Naboth, a Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel, beside the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. 21: 2 Ahab said to Naboth, "Give me your vineyard so I can make a vegetable garden because it is near my house. Instead I will give you a vineyard better, or if you prefer, I will pay the price of the vineyard with the money. "21: 3 But Naboth said to Ahab," May God prevent me give you the inheritance of my fathers unto thee. "21: 4 So he went Ahab into his palace, bitter. It sullen because of Naboth of Jezreel, 'I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. "He lay down on his bed and the king turned away his face; he refused to eat. 21: 5 Then his wife Jezebel came, and said to him, "Why do you regret, and refuse to eat?" 21: 6 So Ahab said to him, "Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, 'Sell me your vineyard with for silver, or if you prefer, I will give you a vineyard in its place. 'But he said,' I will not sell you my vineyard. ' "21: 7 Jezebel his wife said, to him," are you a king over Israel ? Get up and eat, and let your heart happy! I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. "21: 8 Then Jezebel wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letter to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's city. 21: 9 This is what she wrote: "Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth in front of the people. 21:10 Also seat two villains to face it, and to bear witness to him, saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then take him out and stone him to death. "21:11 And the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's city did as Jezebel had sent unto them. 21:12 They proclaimed a fast and put Naboth in front of the people. 21:13 Then came the two men, who were villains arrived and sat opposite him. The wicked men testified against Naboth in front of the people, saying, "Naboth has cursed God and the king." So they dragged him out of the city and stoned him to death. 21:14 Then they sent the report to Jezebel, "Naboth has been stoned to death." 21:15 When he heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, that Jezebel said to Anab, "Arise, and take the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite it's yours, because Naboth who refused to give thee for money, is no longer alive; he is dead. "21:16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite to take it as his heritage.Psalm 5: 2-3.5-6.7Refren: Take care of my meditation, my God.* Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation. Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for to you I pray.* You are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; neither shall evil dwell with thee. Can not stand in front of your eyes; You hate all evildoers.* You destroy those who tell lies, the Lord despises violent and deceitful.Gospel reading:"Do not resist one who is evil."5:38 In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, "You hear that formerly was spoken, 'an eye for an eye; tooth for a tooth '. 5:39 But I say to you, 'Do not resist one who is evil. Conversely, when people slapped on the right cheek, offer your left cheek. 5:40 When someone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well. 5:41 When you bring someone forced to go one mile, go with him twain. 5:42 Give to everyone what he wants, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. "reflection:Paradoxically Ahab: Superintendent controlled.Surely we remember the first days of the New Order, the Son of the Superintendent or the Superintendent or the Superintendent so powerful friends. Whatever they want to be owned by any means, but must hit the limits of morality, religious values, or even to sacrifice the lives of others. But that power was never satisfy them. After they managed to control big business, they still want small businesses such as the orange trade, parking area, and uniform shoes supplier for a particular school. Anyone not dare to oppose or impede their wishes because the risk is very heavy. But if we observe the life of the ruler, it is obvious that they are not in power, but they are slaves who did not have the right voice and especially power over their lives. It is a paradox. The story of Naboth's vineyard paradox manifests it precisely.Ahab, king of Israel, have power, wealth, and splendor that surely far above him. But he never felt satisfied with what he already had. He could not control his lust for lust and have something, even though he knew that the word of God does not allow him to sell his farm. Passions that can not be controlled by it eventually yielded an act of sin is breaking God's word to consciously and deliberately. The persuasion of his wife, he agreed to eliminate him as a cunning and cruel. Thus, the insatiable desire Ahab.Clearly illustrated that even though Ahaz as ruler of Israel, but he himself is a slave of lust. Therefore God bring him to justice. Although God put His punishment, does not mean that God is against it.Meditation: This paradox can be a mirror for Christians today. Beware of every desire that arises in the liver. We should be able to master and learn how to control it and feel quite satisfied with whatever we have right now. Due to uncontrollable desire to be the fruit of sin God hates. Overcome by lust to dominate our passions.Psalms, Maju in God in the midst of life's problems.Crime, both addressed to us and that is happening around us, would cause suffering. This psalm describes climbing steps approaching God that it happened in the struggles of the faithful. The first thing to do is the psalmist declares his heart and her laments to God (vv 2-4). Relationship with God is something real, not merely theoretical. Prayer is a spiritual practice that embodies the real communication. Realizing it, the psalmist prays in the morning. In his prayer, he can freely exalt God as the King, asking for a real seems to a friend. Second, the spiritual struggle that had happened was an opportunity for the psalmist rooted faith belief that God is consistent in His holiness (verses 5-7). Regardless of the fact that now his condition did not allow it to obscure the belief that God punish fairly and firmly reject sin. Third, the psalmist expressed their determination based on faith in God's eternal grace to become more advanced in their relationship with God.Fourth, the psalmist clarify the evaluation of the wicked he asked God treats the wicked commensurate with their crimes. Notice how the psalmist sharply assess the condition and nature of their evil hearts. Thus petition drive is not revenge, but an impetus to the glory of God. Fifth, finally psalmist expressed confidence in his faith that the righteous will rejoice because God protect and bless.Ponder: God not only protect us when we are stressed crimes, it also leads us to walk more intimate with him.Today's Gospel, Christians and the moral decay of society.Day-to-day Indonesian people treated sinetron- themed soap opera infidelity, promiscuity, glorification of wealth, and violence, in order to achieve a goal; young women with super tight outfit on the streets and pornography sites on the Internet; the fact of abuse of law in order to protect the interests of the rulers and the rich: the one to be true; and oppression of the people for the benefit of small businesses. All of that makes things a taboo to be lawful. Vigilantism and destructive demonstration was chosen as the means to release the oppressed life. Moral decline has hit the community.Christians as salt and light of the world should have the moral quality standards of God, therefore Christians must reject all forms of sin radically (verses 29-30). In public law, adultery is a sin because it uses people only as sex objects. For God's sexual imagination, not even the illegitimate because it looked just as sexual objects. But Christians must view humans as being valuable. Divorce empowered by law actually a diversion to the ordinance of God, and the betrayal of the promise of fidelity between husband and wife. In a society where the law, authorities harassed and hard to believe, honesty Christians in the word must be established. For Christians, the word is a debt to be paid. Although the principle of an eye for an eye in the Old Testament sets the limit retaliation as fair rules. But the standard Jesus is not to treat others based on what is fair but based on what is good. Even Christians must love their enemies and pray for those who persecute, as God also gave thanks to the wicked (verse 45). In other words, Christians must imitate God.Meditation: The decline of morality in society is not an opportunity for Christians to compromise or degrade his moral standards. Conversely Christians should become more actively demonstrate to society's moral standards in accordance with the will of God through Christian life, so that people realize that what is presented to them rather than something natural and normal, but a sin that God hates.PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you give us an example of how we are to love our enemies: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34). Thank God. Blessed be thy name always! Amen.
